Distinguish hours and minutes

Start with an adjustable clock at whole hours, then introduce half hours. Notice that the hour hand moves gradually as time passes.

Use a short daily event

Suppose reading begins at 16:00 and lasts twenty minutes. Ask when it ends, moving the clock hands or using a timeline.

From 16:50 to 17:00 is 10 minutes, followed by another 10 to 17:10: 20 minutes altogether.

Explore time across an hour

When ready, start at 16:50 for twenty minutes: ten minutes to 17:00 and another ten to 17:10.

Keep exploring together

Choose activities that match the learner’s knowledge and readiness, and discuss what you notice. Explore the curriculum or parent guide below.
